Advancing Public Education
The Biofuels Center of North Carolina received funding from the U.S. DOE to help educate North Carolinians about biofuels in their state. The multimedia project has allowed the Center to create this website, start a Facebook biofuels community, a Twitter feed and over the course of the next few months, revamp the software the Biofuels Wiki uses to enable the site to carry video and audio as well as the text and images it currently has.
It also has a strong video component to it. In October 2010 at the State Fair, thousands of people visited the Star in Your Own Video-themed biofuels booth in the Green NC tent and hundreds took the time to volunteer to shoot videos of why they support biofuels and say how biofuels will benefit the state. By the end of the Fair, more than 500 videos had been created. The "Star in Your Own Video" clips have been posted on the NC Biofuels site, HERE, and have been viewed thousands of times and shared with friends and family.
A selection of these videos are being used for a statewide TV campaign during the first quarter of 2011. The public service announcements will reference NCBiofuels.net where North Carolina motorists can find useful information about biofuels. While watching TV, you may see only one or two of the TV PSAs, but all of them are HERE.
